Camping
Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) manages a campground at Hecla Junction as part of the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA). Camping in AHRA campsites requires a reservation through the CPW website.
Boating
Hecla Junction features an AHRA boat launch/takeout popular with whitewater enthusiasts and anglers. Both whitewater boating and fishing in Browns Canyon are managed by CPW.
Hiking
The trailhead for the Arkansas River Trail is located south of the boat ramp at Hecla Junction. The 1-mile trail follows the west bank of the river to the south for a relaxing and easy walk. It offers a quiet view of the river and the pinon-juniper forest as well as access for fishing.
