| Thanks you for your interest in group tour of the Lost Mine of Chaffee County. Following are the answers to many of your questions. Contact monty@salida.com for information. | |
| Seasons and Times: Tour operates daily May 15, 2004 though September 15, 2004. Normal tours depart hourly in the am from 9 am through 3 pm. Larger group tours, particularly in peak seasons are usually scheduled ahead of time to avoid conflict with regularly scheduled tours. Tours may also be scheduled before or after regular hours. Larger tours may require splitting into two groups run 30 minutes apart. | |
| Reservations: Reservations are required in advance for group rate tours. Tours must arrive at least 20 minutes before their scheduled time. Later arrivals cannot be guaranteed space. Note the tour operates near capacity in peak season. Allow 15 minutes to drive from Salida to the mine site. (5 miles). Once at the site we neeed at least 15 minutes to get the group ready to go underground. | |
| Group Size: Each tour can handle a maximum of 20 persons per trip. Larger groups must be split up and run 30 to 45 minutes apart. Tours are generally not exclusive meaning the lost Mine reserves the right to fill available empty seats with members of the general public unless a "private" tour has been arranged | |
| Prices & Terms: The standard commercial group rate for adults is $39 per adult and children, $29. Price includes: A 50% deposit is required with the balance upon arrival to be paid by cash, company check on a US bank in US dollars. Full refunds will be made only if tour is canceled a minimum of 24 hours in advance. | |
| Accessibility Info: The tour involves a four wheel drive jeep tour ( by others) approximately 1.5 miles beyond the county road, light hiking 50 yds.down a mild slope with 15-20 min of standing and walking through the mine. We are not wheelchair accessible. A reasonable amount of physical fitness is required. The altitude is approximately 8,500 feet above sea level. The twenty acre mine site is surrounded by government land. | |
